A Look at our Painting Classes

The summer is coming to an end and the school year is right around the corner. Above are some highlights from our painting class during the 2012 Summer Arts Camp. We currently have two groups in drawing and painting, our youngest artists, grade K-2, and rising artists in grades 3-5.

The above ice scream cone was painted by one of our rising artists, who used oil paint for the first time this summer. We recycled old vinyl wallpaper and created still life paintings against a wallpaper pattern.

Below this almost ready-to-eat ice cream cone is a "Cave Painting" created by one of our youngest artists. They made their own paint using earth pigments and egg yolk and depicted subjects reminiscent of early cave art: animals in motion, plants, and insects.

Enrollment is now open for our After School Painting Classes. The youngest group will be meeting on Tuesdays from 4-5:30pm, and the rising artists group will meet on Thursdays from 4-5:30pm. This fall, we are also offering an open painting class for grades 3-6 for those students that already have a busy after school schedule that will run on Saturday morning from 10:30am-noon.

The painting class covers most drawing and painting techniques such as pastels, watercolors, gouache, egg tempera, acrylic painting on canvas and more. Once or twice per session, we'll have a special workshop such mono prints, painted collages, Chinese brush painting, and other variations on drawing and painting.
